Next Game: November 5 at Iowa Wild

Berezhnoy first laced up his skates in his hometown with Metallurg Novokuznetsk, where he developed the foundational skills that would define his career. In 2019, he made a pivotal move to the Avangard Omsk organization, one of Russia’s premier hockey clubs, signaling the hockey world’s early recognition of his talent. He spent two seasons competing with Yastreby in the Youth Hockey League (YHL), steadily sharpening his game at the junior level.

The 2021/22 season marked a major milestone as Berezhnoy stepped into the MHL (Junior Hockey League) with the Omsk Yastreby, earning the starting goaltender role and proving he could handle the demands of professional junior competition. Building on that momentum, the following season he took on an even greater challenge, suiting up for Omskie Krylya in the VHL (the second-highest tier of Russian hockey) while continuing to anchor the Omsk Yastreby net.

His breakout year came in the 2023/24 season, when he appeared in 24 MHL games and an impressive 19 VHL games, all while earning a spot on the roster for 9 KHL games between October and November, giving him his first taste of Russia’s top professional league. On November 20, 2024, Berezhnoy was traded to the storied SKA Saint Petersburg, one of the KHL’s most celebrated franchises. Just ten days later, on November 30, 2024, he made his official KHL debut, a moment that marked the arrival of a goaltender ready to compete at the highest level.

Among his honors, Berezhnoy earned a Bronze Medal (2022) and a Silver Medal (2023) at the MHL Championship, underscoring his ability to perform when the stakes are highest.
